Bryant — Birmingham News August 02 2009 5:35 AMThree Birmingham city council members including the council president want to delay voting on bingo permits until the ordinance is clarified. Birmingham Councilwoman Valerie Abbott plans to introduce a proposal calling for a moratorium on granting permits Tuesday — the same day that the council is scheduled to consider 17 applications most from groups that want to operate electronic bingo halls. Abbott wants to wait until a court rules on the legality of bingo.
Lobbyist Likely to Testify in Birmingham Bribery Trial

– A lobbyist who agreed to plead guilty to paying thousands of dollars in bribes to Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford will likely testify in Mr. Langford’s upcoming trial his attorney said Thursday. Federal court documents show Al LaPierre admitted being the middleman in a conspiracy to route money to Mr. Langford from investment banker Bill Blount.
