– Regions Financial Corp. said Tuesday it recorded a loss during the second quarter as it nearly tripled its provision for loan losses – a problem nearly all banks are facing amid the ongoing recession. The regional bank said its loss available to common shareholders totaled $244 million or 28 cents per share compared with a profit of $206 million or 30 cents per share last year.
Ex-HealthSouth CE Scrushy’s bank accounts seized

— Richard Scrushy’s bank accounts have been seized in a bid to collect some of the $2. 8 billion he was ordered to pay for a fraud that nearly bankrupted Alabama-based HealthSouth Corp. Lawyers for HealthSouth shareholders said Monday papers were served on more than a dozen banks where Scrushy is believed to have accounts. Those banks include the Birmingham-based First Commercial Bank and Alamerica Bank; New York-based UBS AG; and San Francisco-based Wells Fargo & Co. Shareholder attorney John Somerville said lawyers are trying to collect everything they can from Scrushy even though he doesn’t have enough money to pay all the judgment.
