Scrushy civil case far cry from criminal trial

(AP) — Richard Scrushy’s federal criminal trial was an entertaining white-collar whodunit with everything from a courtroom prayer circle to a big cartoon rat. Four years later a shareholder lawsuit seeking $2. 6 billion from the disgraced HealthSouth Corp. chief executive isn’t making nearly the same splash. There have been few fireworks and no crowds this time despite the huge amount of money at stake.

LDV withdraws from administration

The company said this weekend that it would restart production by July once its takeover deal with Malaysia’s Weststar has been finalised. Weststar earlier this month agreed to buy the Birmingham-based company after the UK government provided a £5m four-week bridging loan. LDV was poised to enter administration before the Weststar deal. Weststar said it intended to maintain production at the company’s plant in Birmingham but also to expand manufacturing in Malaysia.

Birmingham picks up two victories

The final results were a 4-3 win for the Barons in the first game and a 4-2 Birmingham victory in the second game of the day. The difference in the first game was a three-RBI double for C. Retherford in the top of the sixth after the Jaxx had led 3-1 through five innings.

In the run-up to and even after Blues’ day of destiny at Reading Alex McLeish’s future was a big issue. Now with the dust having settled following Blues’ promotion to the Premier League Sullivan said it was much ado about nothing. “We’re busy planning for next season with the manager he’s happy here and we’re happy with him” said the co-owner. “I’ve never had a cross word with him. Alex does hold his cards close to his chest sometimes you’re not sure what he may be thinking.
