(AP) — Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford has been placed on the federal government’s Excluded Parties list and can no longer conduct business with federal agencies. Langford is barred from signing federal grant applications or entering into agreements that involve federal money. The mayor Montgomery investment banker Bill Blount and lobbyist Al LaPierre are named in a 101-count indictment charging them with conspiracy and bribery. The three men deny wrongdoing and are scheduled for trial Aug.

Keeping alive an interdenominational tradition that’s become beloved in downtown Birmingham members of St. Paul’s Cathedral and First Presbyterian Church will carry palm branches together this morning in a street procession to celebrate Palm Sunday. “We bring the bagpiper and they bring the bishop” said the Rev. Shannon Webster pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham. “It’s a beautiful opportunity to come together as Christians to recognize our holiest week” said the Rev.

According to The Spokesman-Review newspaper of Spokane Washington State athletic director Jim Sterk conducted the interview during the Final Four tournament in Detroit. Sterk reported returned home from Detroit on Saturday.

Mark Clarkson was discovered at a house in Copperbeech Close Quinton Birmingham on 28 March. The divorcee who lived alone had suffered head and facial injuries. Police said it was not clear if he was alive when the fire began. An 18-year-old man is due before the city’s magistrates on Monday.
