The local daily newspaper implemented “cost-cutting measures” which also included freezes on employees’ pension plan accruals. n the other hand the company plans to double its 401 (k) matching program for participating employees according to the release. Earlier cost-saving measures included voluntary buyouts last year. In early February the newspaper scrapped its women’s lifestyle magazine Lipstick.

Nationally resale housing prices fell 11. 6 percent in January compared to January 2008 according to First American CoreLogic a market research group. That represents 11 consecutive months of depreciation by more than 10 percent and early February data shows the trend will continue.
