Birmingham cop fired for alleged sex offense while on duty

(AP) — A fired Birmingham police officer is facing sex-related charges. 44-year-old Steve Drummer a 9-year police veteran was arrested Thursday night and charged with sodomy and sexual abuse. Police the charges stem from a complaint filed by a 20-year-old woman who said she was sexually assaulted Sunday night. No other details regarding the case was made public. Drummer was placed in the Jefferson County Jail on $70000 bond. Its unclear if he has retained an attorney.

In a news release from the Birmingham Police Department officers responded to Service First Bank to investigate a person trying to get change for a $1000 antique bill. The person left the bank and with a description of the vehicle officers were able to track down the three suspects and were captured. There was a safe inside the van with various antique currency and coins which were later determined to be stolen from Kalamazoo MI. All suspects are teenagers and are from Michigan.
