The man leaped off the overpass near Poplar Street and Castle Shannon Boulevard; his distraught girlfriend told police Mr. Birmingham had threatened to kill himself earlier in the day. “He had texted his girlfriend with ‘4-XXXX’ ” which means suicide and it worried her” said Castle Shannon police Chief Harold Lane who said Mr… to sweep the area with a spotlight. Birmingham was finally found running through back yards in Bethel Park. He is currently in the Allegheny County jail awaiting a hearing on Tuesday. He will be charged with reckless endangerment of another person resisting arrest disorderly conduct loitering prowling at nighttime and underage drinking. Had the issue of suicide not been a factor the chief said “There would not have been sense in chasing him as hard as we did. But in this deal the officers were more concerned with his safety.

Marcelo opened the scoring in the 24th minute when he seized on a mistake inthe Pompey defence to race clear before unleashing a fierce 25-yard shot whichsurprised veteran goalkeeper Dave Beasant. But the former Sheffield United man might have done better in the 58th minutewhen full-back Martin Grainger wriggled free on the left and Marcelo wasunmarked and was only 10 yards out when he headed straight at the relievedBeasant. Portsmouth had plenty of possession but had little to show for it so it wassomething of a shock when they equalised in the 39th minute. Croatian captain Robert Prosinecki was the creator with a cunningly flightedfree kick from the left to the near post when Lee Bradbury glanced in his fourthgoal of the season… Both sides had the opportunities to win it with young winger Courtney Pittprompted by Prosinecki posing plenty of problems down the left with his speedand skill. Twice in the opening six minutes of the second-half he got clear firstshooting at Nico Vaesen and then setting up a chance for Kevin Harper which wasbrilliantly blocked at full stretch by Grainger. Birmingham should have done better later in the match with two other clearopenings both wasted by Geoff Horsfield. Stan Lazaridis got clear down the left in the 72nd minute and pulled the ballback for Horsfield but he delayed his shot and Pompey cleared. Then with six minutes remaining Nicky Eaden raced down the right and his deepcentre was met by Horsfield at the far post but again he got in a tangle at thelast second and Beasant was able to save comfortably. Portsmouth manager Graham Rix recalled Lee Mills and the transfer-listedstriker could have marked his return with a header in the 17th minute whichDarren Purse cleared from the line. Mills was later booked for a foul as was Birmingham’s Curtis Woodhouse whileHarper earned a yellow card seven minutes from the end for diving.
