Eleven of the top developers and property consultants who will be transforming the city?s skyline over the next four years will be joined by a team from the city council on a giant Birmingham stand which is intended to dominate the event which this year is expected to attract 28000 delegates from all over the world. They are supported by 12 other sponsors who have also supported Team Birmingham financially. Mike Whitby Leader of Birmingham City Council explained: ?MIPIM is where the major global players decide where they are going to spend billions of pounds on property development. ?Birmingham has an estimated £17 billion of construction underway over the next ten years and we need to ensure that we are putting our case for the next generation of investment.

a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing today announces that the University of Birmingham is installing its IronPoint Mobility Series of access points (APs) and controllers in a major replacement and expansion programme to provide complete Wi-Fi coverage by the end of 2008 at its main 250 hectare Edgbaston campus the 80 hectare Selly ak campus and at the affiliated Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon. This makes the project one of the largest deployments of Wi-Fi within a UK university to date. ften dubbed the Venice of the North given the miles of canals Birmingham is home to one of the biggest and most prestigious Universities in the UK with around 30000 students 6000 staff and an income exceeding £354 million. Key projects set to benefit from today?s announcement include the £12 million City Park a new multi-storey car park in Eastside and redevelopment of Curzon Street Station and Digbeth Institute. Part of the money which will be supplemented by £5 million from partner agencies will also be used to improve connectivity and street scenes for pedestrians travelling between the Jewellery Quarter city centre and Mailbox. Cash will also be made available for the Interconnect Birmingham project ? which seeks to improve the legibility of signs and ease of pedestrian movement within the city. Coun Whitby said: ?The Big City Plan sets ambitious targets for the future of the city and we are consulting with as wide an audience as possible on to ensure we get this ?once-in-a-lifetime? opportunity right.
