us Digg This The federal government has allocated $26 million to build a new veterans home in Birmingham and Alabama received $1. 5 million in federal funds to renovate and upgrade Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alexander City. The state is searching for a site in the Jefferson County-Shelby County area to build a new 280-bed veterans home with an estimated construction cost of $40 million according to a news release issued by Gov. The renovations at the Bill Nichols home were completed this month and included repairs or replacement of shower facilities removal of old sheetrock and mold and repairs to baseboards.
