The event is open to members and non-members and will be happy to accept members of other GAE clubs from abroad too. For the second consecutive year organisers have chosen Birmingham the host city of the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest and one of the United Kingdom's most central points as the location for the fan club’s annual get-together. Birmingham Bash 2 will take place at Jury’s Inn Hotel on Broad Street. Amongst the day’s activities will be a Weakest Link style quiz an intriguing Eurovision style contest a glitzy Awards ceremony with special ‘Stars in their Eyes’ performances and a fantastic disco. And in the year when the UK sent its 50th entry to the Contest the Bash will welcome a number of special guests to talk about their experiences of representing the UK. The names of the special guests will be announced shortly.

Calera passes Huntsville as fastest-growing city in Alabama

Most of the fastest-growing places were part of the Birmingham metro area. Eleven cities in the seven-county Birmingham metro statistical area gained more than 1000 people since 2000 including Hoover Trussville and Gardendale in Jefferson County and Pell City in St. Clair County neonta in Blount County and Alabaster in Shelby County. Several Birmingham area cities suffered losses in population during that time such as Birmingham Bessemer Fairfield Hueytown and Homewood. In 2006 Birmingham still led the state has the largest city with 229424 residents while Montgomery followed with 201998 and Mobile ranked third with 192830.
