Southwest to reinstate Birmingham-New rleans flights

us Digg This Southwest Airlines announced Wednesday it has added daily nonstop roundtrip flights from Birmingham International Airport to New rleans Dallas and Tampa Bay. The flights will begin Nov. As the city of New rleans rebuilds after Hurricane Katrina Southwest spokesman Tony Roach said the airline is now able to reinstate its nonstop trip out of Birmingham which ended just after the 2005 storm. Southwest will provide three daily flights leaving in the morning midday and evening he said.

Suns Take Sloppy Wednesday Game in Birmingham

- The Birmingham Barons (35-45 3-7) committed eight errors in the Alabama heat Wednesday afternoon while the Jacksonville Suns (49-31 8-2) recorded fifteen runs and hits for a 15-7 victory at Regions Park. The eight Birmingham errors came one short of tying a league record for errors in a game by a single team (9) set in April of 1971 by the Birmingham Barons in a game against the Memphis Chicks. In the sweltering midday start the offenses for both sides warmed up quickly. Birmingham scored three in the first inning on Suns starter Mike Megrew with a three-run double to open a 3-0 lead. Jacksonville quickly bounced back against Birmingham starter Ryan Wing with a three-run second inning including a two-run double from James Tomlin and a RBI single from Kevin Howard to tie the game 3-3.

The plans form part of the first phase of a wider regeneration in the Birchfield area. A spokesperson for Birmingham Council explained why it decided not to demolish the towers. She said: ?The decision to retain these architecturally significant tower blocks which have unparalleled views across the City was taken in response to the need for a step change in the supply of new homes. It will provide a catalyst to creating increased confidence in the housing market in the North West of Birmingham.
